When I first started looking into ways to make money online, I’ll be honest—I felt completely overwhelmed. There were so many options, so many “gurus,” and way too many promises of overnight success. It was hard to know what was real and what wasn’t.
But like many people, I was curious. I wanted more flexibility, a bit of extra income, and the chance to build something of my own. So I decided to take a simple approach: start small, stay consistent, and learn as I go.
This post isn’t about getting rich quickly. It’s about the real, practical first steps I took—and how you can take them too.

Step 1: Changing My Mindset
Before I made a single euro online, I had to change the way I thought about money and work.
I used to think that making money required a traditional job—fixed hours, fixed pay, and limited freedom. But the online world works differently. It rewards creativity, consistency, and patience.
I stopped asking:
“How can I make money fast?”
And started asking:
“How can I build something that grows over time?”
That shift made all the difference.
Step 2: Choosing One Path (Instead of Ten)
One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is trying to do everything at once.
Affiliate marketing, freelancing, dropshipping, blogging, YouTube, digital products… the list goes on. I tried to learn all of them at first—and ended up making zero progress.
So I simplified.
I chose one path to focus on: blogging combined with affiliate marketing.
Why?
It had low startup costs
I could work at my own pace
It allowed me to build something long-term
You don’t have to choose the same path I did. But you do need to choose one and stick with it long enough to see results.
Step 3: Starting Without Overthinking
I wasted a lot of time trying to make everything “perfect” before starting.
Perfect logo. Perfect website. Perfect plan.
None of it mattered.
What actually helped was taking imperfect action:
I chose a simple blog name
I set up a basic website
I wrote my first post (which wasn’t great, honestly)
And that was enough to get started.
The truth is, your first version won’t be perfect—and it doesn’t need to be. Progress beats perfection every single time.
Step 4: Learning the Basics That Actually Matter
There’s a lot of information out there, but not all of it is useful when you’re just starting.
Here’s what I focused on instead:
1. Creating helpful content
I asked myself: What would someone like me search for? Then I tried to answer those questions in a simple, clear way.
2. Understanding affiliate links
I learned how to recommend products or services I genuinely found useful—and earn a small commission when people signed up or bought through my link.
3. Basic SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
I didn’t go deep into technical stuff. I just learned how to:
Use the right keywords
Write clear titles
Make my posts easy to read
That alone was enough to start getting some traffic over time.
Step 5: Staying Consistent (Even When Nothing Happened)
This was the hardest part.
For the first few weeks—and honestly, even months—it felt like nothing was happening. No traffic. No clicks. No earnings.
It’s easy to get discouraged at this stage.
But I kept going.
I made a simple goal:
Write 2–3 posts per week
Keep learning
Keep improving
Slowly, things started to change.
One day, I got my first click.
Then my first small commission.
It wasn’t much—but it proved something important:
This actually works.
Step 6: Learning From Small Wins
My first earnings online were tiny. But they were powerful.
Why?
Because they showed me what was possible.
Instead of chasing big results right away, I focused on understanding:
What content people liked
What links they clicked
What problems they wanted solved
Each small win gave me clues on how to improve.
And over time, those small improvements started to add up.
Step 7: Avoiding Common Beginner Mistakes
Looking back, there are a few things I wish I had known earlier:
1. Don’t fall for “get rich quick” promises
If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
2. Don’t compare yourself to others
Everyone starts at zero. Focus on your own progress.
3. Don’t quit too early
Most people give up right before things start working.
4. Don’t wait until you feel “ready”
You’ll learn more by doing than by planning.
How You Can Start Today
If you’re thinking about earning money online, here’s a simple way to begin:
1. Pick one method
Blogging, freelancing, selling digital products—choose one that interests you.
2. Take your first small step
Create an account, write a post, offer a service—just start.
3. Learn as you go
You don’t need to know everything upfront.
4. Stay consistent
Set a realistic schedule and stick to it.
5. Be patient
This isn’t instant—but it is possible.
Final Thoughts
Starting to make money online isn’t about being an expert. It’s about being willing to try, learn, and keep going—even when progress feels slow.
I started with no experience, no clear plan, and plenty of doubts. But by taking small, consistent steps, I began to see real results.
And if I can do it, so can you.
The most important thing?
Start today.
